Launching the Magic, Murder, & Machines Audiobook Nov 6!

audiobook cover of Magic Murder and Machines

The Backstory:

Last year, when North Atlantic books asked me about my audition notes for the Burnout Recovery audiobook, I seriously considered auditioning to read it myself. I got out my microphone and tested this concept by recording the audiobook version of The Last Red Dragon novella. I enjoyed the voice acting part of the work! I did not enjoy editing, compiling, adjusting and fixing about 20 individual audio files to get them through the acx quality requirements.

After that experience, I decided that NO I did NOT want to be on the hook for the work required for a traditionally published piece. However, I did learn all of the steps to successfully record and self-publish an audiobook, and decided that I will probably create them for my self-published work going forward.

I didn’t have time to dedicate to that project when I launched Magic, Murder, and Machines last year, so I only published the ebook and paperback versions. After Burnout Recovery came out, I realized that I missed a lot of opportunities with the launch of my self-published works. I learned a lot from that traditional launch that I wanted to give my other books. The new audiobook format of the already-published book gives me that opportunity!

The Audiobook:

The audiobook is all fifteen stories, and runs 6 hours and 17 minutes long.

I had to learn how to pronounce some words in Welsh, come up with pronunciations of keyboard smash names of aliens, and somehow differentiate the frame tale vocals from the rest of the stories. It was an adventure!

On November 6th, this audiobook will be available via Amazon and Audible.

Katherine Bierman once again helped me out with the cover art, this time making it fit the Audible requirements.

Eventually I’m going to add this AI Statement to the footer of this website, but for now I’ll add here that there was no text generation, image generation, or voice generation technology used in the creation or production of this book. I did edit it with a voice editor that can use machine learning to even out the vocals, but that’s about it.
