My high fantasy short story “The Old One” appeared in Issue 9 of Three Crows Magazine in the Spring of 2021.
This story is an action-adventure with unique heroes. I’ve written a number of stories in the world where this was based, bit this was the first to find a home.

About “The Old One”
I’ve been writing an interconnected series of short stories in a high fantasy setting since roughly 2013. I have several of these “Caverunner” stories written, but this is the first that has been published. I really deeply enjoyed writing this tale. Caverunners are the hands and feet of Fate, and they have a job to do in each world she sends them into. This story follows Toby, a Vietnam War vet, who has been a Caverunner since his early twenties. And Howard, an octogenarian who has been resisting the call to become a Caverunner all of his life – and answers it only when he has nothing left to lose. Their intertwined stories and adventures have a warm, fuzzy, feel-good ending that still delights me years later!
